it’s only a month away, and it will be coming up fast. bawls cans have been ordered from thinkgeek.com and are on the way, the best deal I could find. they will be $2.25 each, sold at cost at the event. what games will we play, what food will we order?

April 22-24, sound good? we’ll have better table space this time, and don’t forget the projector! should be perfect temperature, good time of year as long as it doesn’t rain, but not like that would spoil anything. some details: alcohol is allowed if you’re of age, bring your own, and keep yourself under control. same as last time, no door fee, but we should definitely pool some money together for some good take-out. a few cases of bawls, some other sodas, chips and such. got a blazing fast network, and the server hasn’t had a non-maintenance reboot in over a year. I think, the only thing we need is for someone to introduce some new games to us to play. prepare your computer for a fun weekend!

I had my last quiet weekend before the lan party. this coming weekend will be a good time! I was unsure if bawls would sponsor us with anything, even just stickers. got a package in the mail today, with 10 free bottles of bawls!! it will take more then that to keep us going, but it’s a good free start to the weekend.

counting down the days. we’re still expecting about 10 people, but only a hand full are confirmed. this coming weekend I’ll start getting things ready and contacting people to confirm they’re coming. we now have 2 sponsors. it’s a small party, so nothing huge, but we have bawls sending something, and computer power user is sending us some magazines. I just ordered prizes, a titanium spork and a t-shirt that says I see fragged people. come on people, still need 5 more guests to have an open buffet.

Just over 2 more weeks until the event! still only have about 10 people on the guest list. if you’re thinking about coming, let me know. if we get it up to 15 I’ll have an open buffet of cheese burgers, cheese fries with bacon, and pizza. also have to know how much energy drinks to stock up on! $15 at the door pays for expenses, then whatever is left over goes to prizes when the end is near. thanks to an offer by wild turkey, we’ll have a projector on a wall for games and movies. I can’t wait to play some quake 3 capture the flag!

then there’s the network to connect all the computers together. 3 managed netgear switches with 12,000mbs bandwidth. expecting no network lag at all.

Q: what does the name PoiXson mean?

A: nothing really.. it’s a name a good friends of mine came up with years ago. we registered the domain and never did much with it, so it just seems, pretty much, a perfect use for it. it has nothing to do with poisons or chemicals or the band. it just looks cool and makes for a nice logo!

Q: can I drink or smoke at the lan party?

A: yes, this event is BYOB, but underage drinking can’t and wont be tolerated. there is normally no smoking in my house, but there will be a separate smoking room for adults to use, rather then standing outside in the cold.

Q: what should I bring?

A: your computer or console games, whatever you’ll be playing. some snacks and food, some extra cash just in case. BEER, friends, and video games! we should have cables and such to lend to you if you forget anything, but a 10 foot network cable and a surge protector would be a help.

Q: will there be internet access at the lan party? reliable?

A: yes. my network design hasn’t yet be tested with more then 5 people, but I doubt there will be any problems or lag. everything should be very fast. 15mb cable internet, linux based router with QoS, and 3 26 port managed non-block switches. a few gigabit ports are available on request, but these are first come first serve. they will go fast. last night, I downloaded a 3.5gb linux install iso in under an hour.

Here it is, the announcement of the first PoiXson Lan Party!! November 21, 2008. We hope to make it the best weekend of your whole year! this can obviously only be done if you attend, so hurry and let us know you’re coming! here are some of the details

Location: my house. the living room and kitchen are connected, so we have 14×35 feet of space to fill. we have enough power for 20 people to attend. directions will be given out when it’s closer to the date. there is a wawa, mr z’s, at least 5 pizza places within a 10 minute drive, and a walmart within 25 minutes.

Network: we have a very powerful network for you to tap into. there is enough bandwidth for everyone at the event to share and trade files all at the same time, with no decrease in speed, and can still handle a good 5 times more! 15mb/s cable internet with a reliable linux router with QoS, so everyone gets a good stable internet connection, and no one person can hog it no matter what. 19 people playing world of warcraft and one person being dumb sharing a torrent, shouldn’t cause a problem with this set up.

Free Food: there are 2 options. if you choose to pay the small door fee to attend the event, you will have plenty of FREE pizza subs and soda to enjoy all weekend, as well as qualify for a raffle entry and tournament prizes. a shopping cart full of mountain dew, I’ll drink a bunch of bottles myself. maybe we can even find the new root beer bawls someplace to try.

Door Fee: $12 prepaid or $15 at the door.

Prizes: are yet to be desided and annoynced. feel free to give us ideas

Games: here is a short list of games that we will be playing for sure. any other games not listed here are very welcome and will surely be played.

Entertainment: there will be movies and music playing all weekend. maybe some funny youtube clips, gotta have Kung Pow playing at some point, and Pineapple Express. We’ll have a 400 watt pa system and a 2000 watt sub for movies and music and Rock Band!
